Townsville City Council crews are fixing a burst water main on the corner of Charters Towers Road and Soule Street.

One lane of traffic has been closed to allow Council staff to carry out the repairs.

A Council spokesperson said the lane is expected to reopen later today and thanked businesses and residents for their patience.

“The businesses on Charters Towers Road – between Clayton and Fraire Street – have no access to water but Council crews are already on site fixing the water main,” the spokesperson said.

“We are expecting to repair the leak by the end of the day and restore water to those affected as quickly as possible.

“Once the leak has been repaired the road will be reopened.”

Council expects work on the pipe to take up to 3 hours to complete.
