Nature Play competition to keep kids active outdoors

Date published: 27 April 2020

Townsville City Council, with the support of Nature Play QLD, is providing activities to help keep the kids entertained at home while we work together to slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Council is giving away 50 Nature Play Backyard Kits during the next five weeks.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said it was important for parents to take an active role in playtime with the kids.

“Nature Play encourages little ones to spend time outdoors in unstructured play areas. This not only keeps them physically active, but also helps develop their imaginations,” Cr Hill said.

“COVID-19 shouldn’t stop kids from staying active outdoors in the safety of their own backyards, but it’s not always easy for parents to think of ways to keep their children active.

“That’s why Council is uploading a new activity list to our website each week, to help keep your kids happy and healthy at home.”

Cr Hill said entering the competition to win a Nature Play Backyard Kit was simple.

“All you need to do is snap a picture of your child doing any of these fun activities and upload them to our entry form,” she said.

“Council will draw 10 winners each week for five weeks to help encourage you and your family to get active outdoors.
