Update #1: Townsville water supply issues affecting all Townsville residential and commercial customers

Date published: 11 December 2020

Townsville City Council is asking residential and commercial customers to restrict their water use to emergency use only. This means drinking water and toilet use only.

The main pipeline supplying the Douglas Water Treatment Plant was observed leaking around 12pm today. The Douglas plant is the city’s primary water treatment facility.

Council staff have isolated the pipe to enable inspection. This inspection should be completed by around 9pm tonight by which time staff will know the extent of the damage and how long it will take to repair. Repairs will commence as soon as possible.

Council will continue to update the community as more information becomes available.
