NAFA a winner at Australian Event Awards!

The North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA) has been recognised with an award at the prestigious Australian Event Awards last night.

NAFA was named as a finalist in three categories and came away with the Best Community Event Award beating out other festivals held across the country.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said taking home the win was a fantastic achievement for all involved in bringing NAFA to life.

“NAFA is a highlight event for not only Townsville, but the entirety of North Australia, and it is a spectacular accomplishment to have the inaugural festival recognised with this award,” Cr Greaney said.

“NAFA was in outstanding company last night and winning the award and being a finalist in two other categories is a testament to the staff and volunteers that worked so hard to bring this experience to the city.”

Cr Greaney said NAFA had been created to cement Townsville’s place as the arts and culture capital of North Australia, and it succeeded.

“The inaugural event saw over 100,000 people attend our events across the city, with hotel visitation benefiting from the five-week long event,” she said.

“While we couldn’t bring NAFA back on the same scale as last year’s event due to COVID-19, it is again a testament to our Council staff involved that we have been able to host NAFA COVID Safe.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how the festival grows in the coming years and how it can transform North Australia.”
