Townsville City Council is helping The Little Mermaid become part of our world with a $50,000 grant towards the Townsville Choral Society’s production of the popular musical.

The show is expected to bring up to 6000 attendees to the Townsville Civic Theatre and will create 120 volunteering opportunities.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the production would include aerial work on stage.

“Our theatre shows push the boundaries of what people expect from regional centres, bringing remarkable performances to the people of Townsville time and time again. This production of The Little Mermaid is going to leave the audience absolutely amazed,” Cr Greaney said.

“Council is proud to be supporting the Townsville Choral Society with a $50,000 grant, $20,000 of which will go towards aerial flying support and the further $30,000 going towards the Civic Theatre venue hire and Civic Theatre staff wages.

“The Choral Society will be bringing an aerial specialist up from Brisbane to help nail the most jaw-dropping moments of the show. The specialist has previously worked with the society on Wicked and in the Burdekin for Mary Poppins.”

The Little Mermaid will run from 20 to 30 January 2022. For more information and to get tickets, head to The Little Mermaid.
