Mosquito treatments commence following heavy rainfall

Date published: 11 February 2021

Townsville City Council crews are undertaking mosquito treatments following the recent high tides and rainfall that has inundated known breeding sites across the city.

The treatments will target the larval hatchings of saltmarsh mosquitoes and are expected to continue throughout the rest of the week.

An aerial treatment has also been completed today for larger sites such as Toolakea, Saunders Beach, Town Common and Pallarenda.

Council staff will monitor any known mosquito breeding sites over the coming weeks to minimise any impact on the community.

Council recommends residents take precautions against mosquito bites such as wearing long clothing, using insect repellent, and emptying any pooled water around the yard.
