Last chance to have your say on Bluewater Park play equipment

A new playground is on the way for Bluewater Park and the community is being urged to have their say on what play equipment gets installed through Council’s Have Your Say platform before it closes this Friday.

The whole park enhancement, including new irrigation, is expected to cost $587,000 and has been funded by the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

Infrastructure Services Committee chairperson Kurt Rehbein said the project would revitalise Bluewater Park.

“The Bluewater Park is a popular day spot and rest area for residents and visitors, and it’s important that we revitalise the park for the benefit of it’s users,” Cr Rehbein said.

“We also want to be able to involve residents in the process of delivering the project, which is why we’re inviting everyone to have their say on which playground equipment they think is best suited for the park.

“The park will also receive a refurbishment of the irrigation system to ensure the park stays looking green and beautiful for the community.

“This consultation is open until Friday, and the project will commence in November with the playground open in time for the summer school holidays.”

Federal Herbert MP Phillip Thompson said this project was another example of how the federal government was investing in local infrastructure.

“The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program is all about making our community a better place to live while also creating jobs for locals,” Mr Thompson said.

“Townsville City Council has been allocated $4.46 million of federal funds in this year’s budget for projects like this under this particular program, so I’m looking forward to seeing more very soon.”

Residents can have their say on the design of the new playground by visiting Council’s Have Your Say Townsville website.
