Third COVID testing site to open today at Murray Sporting Precinct in Annandale

Date published: 1 July 2021

A third drive-through COVID testing site will open in the carpark of Townsville Stadium at the Murray Sporting Precinct today (1 July) as agencies work together to hasten COVID-19 testing in response to a recent identified case in the community.

The site will be operated by Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology and will have three lanes of drive-through testing available. It will be open from 8am to 4pm today and Friday.

UPDATE: Testing at Murray Sporting Precinct is now closed.

Referrals are not required and testing will be available for children.

In order to expedite entry and exit from the facility and to keep people safe, a temporary one way traffic condition will be implemented.

Entry to the site will be by Murray Lyons drive, which will be made into a one-way thoroughfare to assist in getting those wanting a test through as efficiently as possible.

Townsville Local Disaster Management Group chairperson Jenny Hill said the group was pleased to be able to work with local Police to support Queensland Health and Sullivan Nicolaides in getting the facility up and running.

“This site, coupled with the QML COVID testing facility at James Cook University essentially doubles the city’s COVID testing capability,” Cr Hill said.
