Sign up now for Council procurement meetings

Businesses across Townsville can now sign up to meet with the Townsville City Council procurement team face-to-face to learn how to become a supplier for Council.

Business Services and Finance Committee chairperson Margie Ryder said this was a valuable opportunity for businesses that wanted an insight into how to engage with Council’s procurement process.

“The Council procurement team is holding one-on-one meetings with local businesses to make sure they understand how to take part in Council’s procurement process,” Cr Ryder said.

“Each meeting runs for 30 minutes and covers how the quoting and tendering process works, supplier requirements and any opportunities Council has for businesses.

“These informative sessions is one way we can make sure Townsville businesses are up-to-date with our procurement processes.”

Cr Ryder said Council was committed to supporting local businesses whenever possible.

“Procurement is an effective way for Council to support Townsville-based businesses. Last financial year Council spent almost $270 million through procurement, with about 85 per cent of that procurement going to local businesses,” she said.

“We have also recently launched a new tendering system called VendorPanel which gives businesses a platform to submit tenders and quotes for upcoming projects, respond to queries and provide updates to registered suppliers.

“As a recent signee of the Small Business Friendly Council charter, Council is committed to continuing its support of local businesses, with a goal of reaching 90 per cent procurement spend with local businesses in the next five years.”

The procurement sessions run every Tuesday and Thursday from November 2 to December 2021.
