Eskimo Joe will headline a free concert at Townsville’s Central Park this Friday as part of a Townsville Eats event ahead of the highly anticipated Matildas v Ferns match at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Thousands of revellers are expected to attend the event, which will combine the free concert with fresh food and fun for the whole family.

Acting Mayor Mark Molachino said Council was proud to be able to support the international football game with exciting city activations.

“Having the Matildas and Ferns play here in Townsville is a massive coup, we couldn’t be happier to be hosting these elite teams in the heart of our city,” Cr Molachino said.

“Townsville is proud to bring world-class sport to the city as well as award-winning musicians, with Eskimo Joe playing a live concert before the game.

“The band is a fan of playing in the north and it’s great to have them here in Townsville for a free concert where they’ll be supported by local musos Late November and Winifred.”

Cr Molachino said these events were a boost for local business owners, restaurants, hotels and tourism operators.

“There’s no corner of the country that hasn’t been affected by COVID, which is why Council is proud to support city activations that can encourage much-needed support for local businesses,” he said.

“We’ve shown time and time again that Townsville will come out to support world-class sport and entertainment, and Council will continue to back major cultural events coming to the city.

“With this event falling during the school holidays, it’ll be great to see families coming out for some great free entertainment ahead of the Matildas v Ferns kick-off at the Stadium.”
