Dogs, cats, chickens and even a pig find their pawfect place to call home in 2021

Close to 1,000 animals found their fur-ever home last year thanks to Townsville City Council’s Animal Care and Adoption Centre.
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said while the Townsville community had embraced both dogs and cats in the last year, they had also made room in their lives for animals such as chickens and a pig.
“It is always encouraging to see people in the community deciding to adopt a pet. These animals haven’t chosen to end up at our Animal Care and Adoption Centre, so we want to be able to find them new families and homes as quickly as we can,” Cr Soars said.
“Last year, it was amazing to see our community adopt 605 cats and 322 dogs through our Animal Care and Adoption Centre.
“Alongside your traditional cats and dogs, our amazing staff also rehomed a number of birds and guinea pigs, not to mention a pig.
Councillor Soars urged those thinking about getting a companion in 2022 to seriously consider adopting a pet.
“We have some really beautiful animals at the Animal Care and Adoption Centre who are looking for their fur-ever home,” Cr Soars said.
“These animals are all de-sexed, wormed, microchipped and have had their first vaccination, so they’re ready to head straight home as soon as they’ve found the right family for them.

These profiles tell you a little bit about each animal, including their breed, their age and some of their personality traits, and make sure to call through prior to arrange an appointment.”
