Townsville Youth Council is launching Youth Week 2022 with a virtual open mic night to put creative young locals centre stage.
The Youth Council is calling on singers, bands, poets and performers from age 12 to 25 to take part in the event, which will be livestreamed to Facebook and Instagram on 29 April.
Townsville Youth Council’s Townsville City Council representative Cr Liam Mooney said the initiative was focused on celebrating the wealth of talent across the city.
“Townsville is a hive of artistic talent and it’s important that we encourage young people in our community to pursue their creative passions,” Cr Mooney said.
“Townsville Youth Council is run by people aged 12 to 25 and it’s great to see them taking initiative to create a platform for young artists to share their talents.
“The Youth Council is working with Southern Cross Catholic College’s year 12 media team to produce the live stream which will take over Youth Council’s Facebook and Instagram pages on the open mic night, creating a great opportunity for young people who want to be behind the camera too.”
Cr Mooney said registrations were open now for the open mic night.
“There will be limited spots available on the night, so make sure you register as soon as possible. Remember that we want all creative talent, so this opportunity is for you if you’re part of a band, a singer, a poet, a comedian, or if you have another talent that will add to the open mic night experience,” he said.
“If you’re under 18 we need your parent or guardian to give consent for you to take part, so make sure they sign off on your registration form online.”
The Townsville youth Council’s Virtual Open Mic Night will be held on 29 April from 6:30pm to 8pm at Aitkenvale Library.
