Aussie music darlings Lime Cordiale will be joined by Thelma Plum and Haiku Hands for the first ever Tropic Sounds concert at Reid Park during The North Australian Festival of Arts 2022.

Lime Cordiale will be coming to Townsville hot off their J Award for Best Australian Album for the first Tropic Sounds festival on Saturday 11 June 2022.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the event at Reid Park was long-awaited.

“Tropic Sounds is a great new NAFA festival bringing the best in Aussie music to Townsville. The festival was originally scheduled for 2021, but COVID put a pin in that, so we’re thrilled to be able to debut Tropic Sounds this year with a stellar line up of talent,” Cr Hill said.

“Hosting events like Tropic Sounds is great for our local artists who have the opportunity to take the stage with nationally-recognised talent, as well as for our local economy as revellers make their way from across the state and further afield to get amongst the action.”

Council Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said it was important to get in quick to avoid disappointment.

“If there’s one thing Townsville loves, it’s a party. That’s why I’d recommend getting your Tropic Sounds tickets early to avoid missing out,” Cr Greaney said.

“All NAFA events and tickets are up on the NAFA website, so head straight there to stay up to date with events and to book your tickets now.”

Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the big line-up of all-Australian music acts would make Townsville the place to be.

“NAFA has become a big success in Townsville since it began in 2019. It originated from the Commonwealth Games Townsville Festival 2018 and has become this hugely successful event,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“It’s fantastic to see NAFA continue to grow with more arts, culture and entertainment experiences for 2022.”

NAFA is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It’s Live! In Queensland events calendar.

NAFA runs from 10 June to 10 July 2022.
