Book your school holiday camp site now

Families looking for an affordable getaway are being urged to log on to Townsville City Council’s free RV and camping Bookable webpage now to secure their spot for the upcoming school holidays.

The webpage is a one-stop shop for residents and travellers to book a spot at any of Council’s free camping locations.

Mayor Jenny Hill said it was a good idea to get in now to secure a camp site for the school holidays.

“Council offers free and low-cost camping options across the northern beaches which is very popular. In the lead-up to the school holidays, I would recommend locals who are looking for a staycation head to the webpage and book their camp sites early,” Cr Hill said.

“Having a central system available to book your campsite takes the guesswork out of booking your campsite, which is important to Council.”

Cr Hill said the webpage was designed as part of Council’s RV and Camping strategy.

“In May 2020, Council delivered its RV and Camping Strategy, which highlights the ways Council can encourage private sector growth to diversify camping options, maintaining the sustainability of Council’s campgrounds, and enhancing RV and camping visitors’ experiences,” Cr Hill said.

“The camping and RV market is an important sector in the Australian tourism market, which is why Council offers a number of campgrounds for travellers like families and grey nomads to use and makes it easy to book a site through our Bookable webpage.

“The next step is to encourage local businesses to invest in RV and camping sites to help build an economically sustainable future for the city’s campsites.”
