Belgian Gardens Cemetery to receive new plots, ash interments
Date published: 6 May 2025
Construction is underway at Belgian Gardens Cemetery to provide the Townsville community with more than 350 new burial plots and ash interments.
Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the additional burial sites and ash interments would give Townsville locals more space to lay their loved ones to rest.
“Death and dying are part of a healthy community, and it’s important that we continue to plan around end of life for Townsville residents,” Cr Greaney said.
“Council’s works at Belgian Gardens Cemetery will allow for hundreds of family members and friends to have a safe and respectful place to visit their loved one once they have passed.
“The project will not only provide 354 new burial sites and additional ash interments, but will also include pathways, seating areas with shelters, new landscaping with native plants, turfing and irrigation.
“These new works will help make the site a place for families and friends to gather, reflect and remember.”
Construction works at Belgian Gardens Cemetery are expected to continue through to the end of June, weather permitting.
