Honour loved ones at special Mother’s Day Memorial event

Date published: 8 May 2025

Remember the women who shaped your life with the special Mother’s Day Memorial at Belgian Gardens Cemetery this Saturday.

The memorial event will bring the community together to honour and remember mothers, mother figures and children ahead of Mother’s Day.

Townsville Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the memorial was a special chance to find and share solace among the community.

“Council’s Mother’s Day Memorial is always a special event, filled with love, kindness and the unique joy of remembering those who were lost too soon,” Cr Greaney said.

“While death and dying are part of a healthy community, it’s important that we continue to support each other and speak openly about our loved ones. The Mother’s Day Memorial is the perfect opportunity to connect with people who understand the grief and love felt on a sentimental day like Mother’s Day.

“This year we will be allowing space for attendees to share a special memory on the Memorial Tree and listen to words of reflection provided by celebrant Amanda Medill. The brilliant Melaleuca Strings will provide a moving performance and there will be morning tea provided by Rotary Saints.”

Boobialla plants, which symbolise remembrance, resilience and renewal, and cuphea plants, which symbolise quiet love, renewal and soft remembrance, will be available for attendees to take home with them. Attendees will also be able to take home a free grave care pack.
