Walking track reopens after repairs

Townsville fitness lovers’ routines will be back on track this weekend with the reopening of the Mount Louisa Walking Track after it was temporarily closed for repair.
The well used trail was closed for three weeks to allow a local contractor to complete works to stabilise the track after sections sustained damage from record breaking rainfall earlier in the year.
Division Seven councillor Kurt Rehbein said Townsville residents enjoyed getting out and active so it was great to have the track back in action.
“The Mount Louisa Walking Track has fast become one of the most popular walking tracks in our city since it opened in 2020,” Cr Rehbein said.
“The record-breaking rainfall event earlier this year was far reaching, and the effects are still being felt across the region, but Council has been working hard to get infrastructure across the city back up to scratch as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We had local contractors working to rebuild sections that had been eroded, as well as stabilising a lot of the 3.5-kilometre return trail and I’m pleased to say it looks as good as new.
“I’m looking forward to lacing up the runners and getting out and active again on our amazing scenic trail as the weather cools in the months to come.”
