New grants round now open

Not-for-profit and auspice organisations can now apply for cash funding or in-kind support to run activities that boost community spirit and enhance the quality of life for people in Townsville.

Townsville City Council’s community activation grants of between $5001 and $25,000 are now open to applications which support local groups’ community activations, including festivals, events, competitions, workshops, service and club development.

Mayor Nick Dametto said community activation grants were just one way Council was helping to connect and grow Townsville.

“Local groups contribute a great deal to our community and Council’s grants help turn their big ideas into a reality which benefits everyone,” Cr Dametto said.

“Applications are now open for grants of between $5,001 and $25,000, which can go a long way towards making our city a more vibrant and exciting place to live.

“Our Community Grants Program also includes quick response grants of between $1,000 and $5,000, economic activation partnerships and community organisation partnerships.”

Townsville Eisteddfod received $25,000 of in-kind support in the last round of community activation grants, in the form of a fee waiver for The Civic Theatre.

Townsville Eisteddfod president Wendy Lloyd said the support of Council made it possible for the eisteddfod to remain financially accessible for entrants.

“Without receiving this $25,000 grant, we’d have to put up fees for entrants, which would be out of reach for many families who participate in the eisteddfod,” Ms Lloyd said.

“Many Townsville leaders have had their beginnings at Townsville Eisteddfod. When the community sees the council supporting events like ours, that’s a message that the council supports the young people of Townsville and the arts.”

The current round of community activation grant applications is open until Thursday 1 October 2026.
