Prepare today for tomorrow’s challenges at Get Ready Townsville
Date published: 8 October 2026
Townsville residents are urged to plan, prepare and act ahead of the high-risk weather season by heading along to this Saturday's (10 October) free and fun Get Ready Townsville event at Riverway.
The family-friendly event, kicking off at 3pm, will see emergency services personnel and disaster preparedness experts from across the city converge to engage with the community as the high-risk weather season approaches.
Residents will be able to access all the knowledge, resources and practical advice they need to prepare for common North Queensland weather hazards, such as cyclones, fires and floods.
Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) Chair Nick Dametto said Get Ready Townsville was an invaluable opportunity for residents to access the information they need to protect themselves, their families and their property.
“North Queensland is one of the best places to live, but we all know our tropical lifestyle comes with its challenges, especially during the severe weather season," Cr Dametto said.
“Get Ready Townsville is about making sure residents have the information, tools and confidence to prepare early, not when disaster is already at the door.
“Whether you've weathered countless wet seasons or you've only recently moved to our region, there's always something to learn. A little bit of preparation now can save a lot of stress when a cyclone, flood or other emergency event hits.
“Townsville continues to grow, and it's important that everyone understands the risks that come with living in the North.
“The more prepared we are as individuals, the more resilient we are as a community."
Mayor Dametto said, for the first time, Get Ready Townsville would coincide with the ever-popular Riverway Movie Night event, with a special screening of The Wild Robot.
“Once the event wraps up, we're encouraging families to stick around and enjoy the free community activities and outdoor screening of The Wild Robot,” he said.
“We’d love to see as many families down there as possible to wrap up the day in a fun and relaxed way.”
