Supercars championship - Traffic Changes

Traffic Restrictions and Road Closures

Works to install the track and various other infrastructure will occur in the lead-up to the event and will be deconstructed in the days following the race. Traffic diversions will be in place before, during and after the event. Delays can be expected and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

Please be advised there will be changes in traffic with road closures and traffic restrictions.

  • Traffic management is in place for the NTI Townsville 500 from Monday 19 June, and will remain in place until 5am, Monday 10 July 2023.
  • Charters Towers Road and Boundary Street will be impacted during a week of night works from Monday 19 June to Thursday 22 June 2023. Traffic access will be maintained in one lane under stop and go traffic control between Charters Towers Road and Saunders Streeton the following nights Tuesday 20, Wednesday 21 and Friday 23 June 2023.
  • The next phase of road closures will commence at 4:30pm on Friday 30 June, which will see the Reid Park circuit closed to the public by 8pm the same day.
  • Roads will be fully reopened by 5am, Tuesday 11 July 2023.
  • All racing activity will be conducted from Friday 7 July until Sunday 9 July 2023.

Supercars Event Permit Parking

A regulated event parking area will be in place around Reid Park, South Townsville during the event period.

The regulated area is in place to stop non-residents from parking on the streets affected and will be in force from 7am – 7pm from the 7 – 9 July 2023.

A two-hour limit will apply to any vehicle parked on the street during this time. Fines will apply.

Residents living within the regulated area will need to apply for a regulated parking permit.

In 2023, parking permits are moving to e-permits. This means residents will not receive a paper parking permit but instead, they will need to lodge their registration details online.

Transport to the event

Public transport is the recommended event travel option.

The closest bus stop is: 'Flinders St at Fletcher Street, Townsville City', located a short walk from Gate 1.

Taxis will drop off and pick up from Flinders Street and First Street with the best exit being Gate 1 or First Street for Gate 2.

Queensland Rail - Townsville Railway Station

Access to the Townsville Railway Station located on Charters Towers Road is maintained during the event. Please proceed to the intersection of Ingham Road, Flinders Street and Charters Towers Road, where traffic controllers assisted by the Queensland Police Service will provide direction to accessing the platform.

Other car parks

Free parking is available at Dean Street Car Park, which is approximately 1.5km walk to the event precinct (closest access via Gate 1).

On street parking near the event precinct is not recommended.

Illegal parking, or parking causing an impediment for a local resident to access their home or business will be monitored and will result in a fine or the vehicle being towed.

Disabled Persons Access and Disabled Parking

A limited number of Accessible parking spots are available outside of Gate 1 (Stadium) and outside Gate 2 on First Street.
