My name is Chin Chin. Before you knew me, I was lost. I remember the cold metal snap of the trap, the panic that followed, the way fear made me fight when I should have stayed still. I hurt myself trying to escape, not because I was wild, but because I was terrified. The world had taught me that being caught meant pain, and I carried that lesson deep inside me. And for the first time in my life, I felt touch that didn’t hurt. I didn’t know it then, but that moment changed me. I bonded with my handler slowly, carefully—like learning a new language. Each quiet moment, each soft voice, showed me that not all humans bring harm. That bond is precious to me. It’s why I try so hard, even when my body trembles. But please understand me. Strangers scare me because I don’t know their intentions yet. New places make my heart race because I’ve learned that familiar ground can disappear in an instant. Loud noises still send me back to that trap, to the fear and confusion I couldn’t escape. I’m not broken. I’m cautious. I’m gentle in a way that comes from surviving. I would be happiest where the world is calm and predictable—where I can watch from a distance, keep the mice away, and feel the sun on my back. A barn, with space to breathe and routines that don’t change suddenly, would suit me best. I don’t need constant attention—just safety, patience, and respect for the life I’ve lived.
