Call for volunteers for 2017 Strand Ephemera event

Date published: 21 March 2017

Strand Ephemera, North Queensland’s sculpture festival, is looking for volunteers to make this biennial event a success in 2017.

Held on the Strand every two years since 2001, Strand Ephemera has become a highlight of the city’s arts calendar.

It attracts local, national and international artists, with more than 30 artworks expected to be on display from July 28 to August 6.

Volunteers are required with the installation of works, staffing information booths, assisting visitors, helping with school programs and workshops and the pack up at the end of the event.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said volunteers of all abilities were required.

“In 2015 our volunteers contributed 900 hours of service and without them Strand Ephemera wouldn’t be the wonderful event that the community has come to know and love,” Cr Doyle said.

“The last Strand Ephemera attracted about 130,000 visitors including children, students, families and tourists who also participated in 290 programs, workshops and performances.

“Our staff and volunteers worked extremely hard to deliver this event for Townsville and we hope to make 2017 better than ever before.”

All prospective volunteers are asked to contact Perc Tucker Regional Gallery via email ptrg@townsville.qld.gov.au
