Castle Hill Lookout and Walking Tracks

General Information

Castle Hill – Walking Track Closures

Updated: 17 July 2026

Please note that the Goat Track and Cutheringa Track on Castle Hill are closed while Council crews undertake repairs after last week's bushfire.

Crews are prioritising the replacement of burnt step treads along the Goat Track and aim to have this popular track open within two weeks.

Castle Hill is a much-loved landmark with tens of thousands of locals and tourists climbing it each year to enjoy the spectacular 360-degree views of Townsville including the Coral Sea, Magnetic Island and the CBD.

It is easily accessible and suitable for people of all ages, fitness levels and capabilities. Facilities include multiple walking tracks, car parking, toilets, drink fountains and shaded seating.

In 2021, construction of a new walking trail connecting Castle Hill to the central business district was completed. There is also a new track connecting the existing Maidenhair Track to the Goat Track.

The new Panorama Event Lawn at Castle Hill is available for booking.
