General Information

Castle Hill - Walking Track Update

Updated: 21 July 2026

The Castle Hill Goat Track has reopened to the public following the completion of step tread repairs. Works were completed and the track reopened on Monday 20 July 2026, with all closure signage now removed.

The Cudtheringa Track remains closed. Closure signage remains in place at track entry points, and visitors are asked to follow all signage and avoid accessing the track until it is safe to reopen. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

Castle Hill is a much-loved landmark with tens of thousands of locals and tourists climbing it each year to enjoy the spectacular 360-degree views of Townsville including the Coral Sea, Magnetic Island and the CBD.

It is easily accessible and suitable for people of all ages, fitness levels and capabilities. Facilities include multiple walking tracks, car parking, toilets, drink fountains and shaded seating.

In 2021, construction of a new walking trail connecting Castle Hill to the central business district was completed. There is also a new track connecting the existing Maidenhair Track to the Goat Track.

The new Panorama Event Lawn at Castle Hill is available for booking.
