Harold Phillips Park
General Information
Harold Phillips Park has a BMX track, a skate park, a drinking fountain, a sporting net and an AFL field.
The park facilities are home to Community Gro, Garbutt Magpies, Townsville Little Theatre and the Aqua Jets.
In 2024 the park received a new $2.1 million skate park, as well as a re-oriented AFL field and boulder protection around it. Queensland Government provided $1 million of the cost to Townsville City Council to upgrade Harold Phillips Park to enable more Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.
Name History
Harold Phillips was Mayor of Townsville from 1967 to 1972. He was the proprietor of the successful casket agency, Lucky Harold Phillips. This agency sold more casket tickets than any other in Queensland. Mail orders were received from around the State and elsewhere.
