Call for local singers to audition for Carols by Candlelight

Date published: 10 August 2017

Christmas may still seem like a long time away but Townsville City Council is already planning the biggest show of the year – Carols by Candlelight.

Applications are now open for local performers to be a part of the annual event, with singers from all genres and backgrounds encouraged to audition.

Successful applicants will perform either a solo or as part of an ensemble accompanied by the 1RAR Band and 100-member choir at the event on December 10.

This is the third consecutive year council has invited the public to participate.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said performing at Carols By Candlelight was a huge opportunity with an audience of about 12,000 residents each year.

“We’ve had some amazing performers in the past,” Cr Doyle said.

“We’ve had very talented soloists, duos and groups.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for singers to build their confidence and boost their performance portfolios and to show the community what they’re made of.”

Singers need to go through an application process and need to be over the age of 18.

Applications close on Monday, 21 August at 10am.

Solo performers and ensembles (groups, trios, duos etc) are invited to apply.

Successful applicants will be notified Wednesday, 23 August.

Auditions will be held, by appointment, on Monday, 28 August from 4pm-9pm.
