The winner of the wilson/ryan/grose lawyers’ People’s Choice Award has been announced following the conclusion of the ninth Strand Ephemera on August 6.

Marion Gaemers and Lynnette Griffith’s work Ancyent Marinere…are those her sails? was chosen most popular among voters receiving 220 of the 1578 votes received across the 31 artworks.

Their collaboration used marine debris and nets and was exhibited at the Rockpool.

People’s Choice Award runners up were Joy Heylen’s steel crab and John Heard’s stainless steel fish.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said it was great to get feedback from visitors to Strand Ephemera.

“Every festival we encourage people to vote and have their say on which artworks are their favourite,” Cr Doyle said.

“These artists put hundreds of hours into their work and this is just one way to recognise their achievement.

“I congratulate Marion and Lynnette on their collaboration and thank them for being a part of this year’s Strand Ephemera.”

Michelle Morton of wilson/ryan/grose lawyers, major sponsor of the People’s Choice Award, said the firm was pleased to once again renew its association with the festival.

“Strand Ephemera is an event that wilson/ryan/grose lawyers really values,” Ms Morton said.

“An amazing number of people went to have a look at the artworks this year and the high number of visitors who voted in our People’s Choice Award shows it’s a hugely popular event for the city and we’re proud to be associated with it.”

Marion and Lynnette will share $2000 prize money.
