Get Active Expo offers inspiration for the new year

Anyone looking to improve their health and fitness in 2017 is encouraged to visit council’s Get Active Expo at Townsville Stadium this Sunday, January 22.

The annual event is an opportunity for sporting, recreation and health providers in Townsville to promote their services directly to the community.

Community Health and Environment Committee member Cr Russ Cook said it was a great place to find a new hobby and to sign up for a new adventure in 2017.

“If you’ve been considering trying a new sport or activity, this is a one-stop-shop,” Cr Cook said.

“You can speak to fitness providers, clubs and organisations and you can even meet some of the region’s big sporting identities.”

A huge range of activities will be on display, from gymnastics and taekwondo to team sports like basketball and football.

There will also be come and try activities in the Active Zones and you can watch sports in action in the Active Demonstrations.

Local sporting identities including the JCU Townsville Fire’s Mia Murray, Rio Paralympian Andrea McDonnell and Olympian Peter Crawford will on hand to speak to locals.

The first 100 people will receive a free Get Active prize pack and there will be giveaways throughout the day.

Visitors will also have healthy snack and lunch options available to purchase on the day.

The Get Active Expo will be held at Townsville Stadium on January 22 from 10am-2pm.
