Excitement builds as Strand Ephemera artworks are installed

Date published: 24 July 2017

Installation for this year’s Strand Ephemera, the North's Sculpture Festival is underway with artworks from local, national and international artists going up this week in preparation for the launch this Friday, July 28.

Staged over 10 days and nights, the biennial event will transform the city’s iconic Strand into a 2.2km exhibition space featuring artworks, events, workshops and performances.

This year 31 artworks will be on display with 25 competitive and six commissioned artworks making up the exhibition.

The winner will receive the $10,000 Award for Artistic Excellence.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said Strand Ephemera was an amazing way to showcase art in a unique location.

“Strand Ephemera is held every two years and draws in excess of 140,000 to the festival over the 10 days,” Cr Doyle said.

“It’s a way to bring art to the people, in an outdoor location that is just stunning.

“There is so much happening, not just static artworks but also workshops, tours, performances and much more – it’s a very exciting time for the city.”
