Second night for pipeline repairs

Date published: 12 July 2017

Water to Julago, Nome and the greater Alligator Creek area will be interrupted for a second night tomorrow night as crews repair a leaking water main.

Townsville Water crews worked through the night last night in an effort to repair the main but were forced to postpone works after the leak was found to be encased in concrete directly under a section of rail line in Southwood Road.

The water service was reinstated in the early hours of this morning.

Council will now work with Queensland Rail to access the break, before replacing the leaking 600mm fiberglass pipeline with a Ductile Iron pipe tomorrow night.

Crews will again interrupt the water from 9pm tomorrow while the repair is underway in order to minimise the impact on residents.

The work is expected to take up to 10 hours to complete.

The council apologises for the inconvenience to householders.
