Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill and Australian Cricket great Andrew Symonds officially launched the ticket sales for a four-day pre-Ashes series at Riverway Stadium today.

The Cricket Australia Xl will host the English Men’s Team in a pre-Ashes match from Wednesday 15 – Saturday 18 November 2017 at the stadium and is the first time England has played in Townsville in 55 years.

Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said hosting the England tour match was a huge event for the city.

“Cricket fans in North Queensland will have a chance to enjoy international cricket in their own backyard and experience first-hand the 2017 Ashes campaign,’’ Cr Hill said.

“When it comes to cricket nothing compares to an Australia-England match and this is fantastic news for the city and sporting fans throughout the north.

“The council has worked very closely with cricket authorities at a local, State and national level to secure the match and it’s fantastic that they have put their faith in the city with today’s announcement.

“Townsville will attract huge attention with the lead-up series before the First test, we look forward to the influx of fans and of course the Barmy Army.

“This council-sponsored event will see economic benefits across the city especially with hotels and restaurants.

“With the Cowboys, the Fire, the V8s, the Rugby League World Cup coming in a few weeks and an England cricket tour match, Townsville has had a full dance card of sporting event this year, and this will go further when Townsville hosts part of the Commonwealth Games next year.”

Each of the four games will commence daily from 10.00am and offer fun, affordable family entertainment.

Adult tickets are $10.00, concessions $5.00, and children under 15 are free.  4-day passes are available for $20.00.

Tickets are now on sale through Council’s Ticketshop.  For more information please visit: https://whatson.townsville.qld.gov.au/events/4-day-pre-ashes-series.
