Second Welcoming Babies and Early Years Expo for 2018 being held this weekend!

Townsville City Council is losing sleep due to the excitement of hosting the second Early Years Expo of 2018 being held this Sunday.
Expectant parents and families with children up to 5 years of age are invited to attend this free event being held at Townsville Stadium from 9am. The expo will showcase numerous exhibitors and market stalls as well as various free activities for children.
The Early Years Expo is an opportunity for businesses and groups to promote all things related to the city’s youngest residents and will be a wonderful chance for families to gain useful information and products in one location. As part of the day’s activities Council will host the ever popular Welcoming Babies Ceremony, where preregistered children will be officially welcomed to the city by the Mayor.
Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said welcoming Townsville’s newborns is a special event, one she holds close to her heart.
“The Welcoming Babies Ceremony is a time where our youngest citizens will be officially welcomed,” Cr Hill said.
“There will be a photo opportunity, and they will receive a certificate, gift bag and a native sapling which can be planted and grow as they do.”
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the Early Years Expo and Welcoming Babies Ceremony is a great way to promote education and give support to young families.
“This event allows families to speak to allied health professionals, early childhood educators, parental support groups, tiny tot sport groups and art groups which can increase the level of support they feel throughout this stage in their lives,” Cr Doyle said.
“We have a huge amount of services available to the community and this is a fantastic opportunity to share it with parents in Townsville”.
