Mount Louisa community consultation extended

Townsville City Council has extended the public consultation period for the Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan until 10 May.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council wanted everyone in the community to have the opportunity to have their say on the project.

“Transforming Mount Louisa into an activity and recreation hub was a key commitment I gave to the community and Council will begin delivering it by the end of the year,” Cr Hill said.

“The Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan is a key project in Council’s Townsville 2020 vision and we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have their say and provide feedback.”

The Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan was released in March and aims to transform the area into an activity and recreation hub. The first stage of the Masterplan includes a viewing platform, walking tracks and a carpark.

Division 1 Councillor Margie Ryder said she wanted to hear from locals in her Division about what they wanted included in the project.

“Council is committed to providing the best public spaces and facilities in the city and the suburbs and we want to give people a world class experience at Mount Louisa,” Cr Ryder said.

Division 5 Councillor Russ Cook said Council is keen to hear feedback on the Mount Louisa Open Space Masterplan because it will be vital to help deliver the project.

“The works on Mount Louisa are a key infrastructure priority for Council, so I’d urge everyone to share their thoughts and have a say about what they want to see included in the project,” Cr Cook said.

Division 7 Councillor Kurt Rehbein said Mount Louisa will be a key destination for tourists and locals.

“The Open Space Masterplan will ensure Mount Louisa becomes one of the most popular public spaces in Townsville and we value the feedback we are receiving from the public,” Cr Rehbein said.

Division 8 Councillor Maurie Soars said Council wants local residents to get involved in the planning process.

“We have extended the consultation process for two weeks to make sure everyone who is interested has their say on the finished product,” Cr Soars said.

Residents can view the Masterplan and provide feedback at our Townsville 2020 website.
