Nominations are now open for the Townsville City Council’s 2018 Australia Day Awards.

Mayor Cr Jenny Hill said the Australia Day Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals or groups engaged in services to the community, culture and sports in Townsville.

There are seven categories in the 2018 awards:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Volunteer Award
  • Arts and Culture Award
  • Senior Sports Person of the Year
  • Junior Sports Person of the Year
  • Environmental Excellence and Sustainability.

“Through the Australia Day Awards, council offers an opportunity to celebrate people in our community who go above and beyond to help a charity or sporting group, or someone who has excelled in their chosen field,” Cr Hill said.

“These could be work colleagues, community organisations, community leaders or even friends and family that dedicate their time and make our community the great place that it is.

“These awards are an opportunity to thank them and highlight their efforts.”

Australia Day Award nominations close at 11pm on Sunday 17 December.

All award nominees and their families will be invited to attend the Australia Day ceremony to be held Friday 26 January.
