Council helping residents prepare for wet weather

Townsville City Council is providing free sand and sandbags for residents who may need them throughout the wet weather this week.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill encouraged anyone who lives in an area that is prone to flooding to visit the Dalrymple Road depot for sandbags and sand.

“We are currently experiencing a wet season event so residents that live in those areas that can get inundated should take the usual precautions,” Cr Hill said.

“Our Dalrymple Road depot will have sand and sandbags available.

“We urge residents to check on their neighbours and ensure that everyone is prepared for the rain.”

Cr Hill encouraged all residents to regularly check Council’s Emergency Management Dashboard for the most up-to-date information, including road closures and flood warnings.

The free sandbags and sand will be available from Council’s Dalrymple Road Depot at 113-123 Dalrymple Rd (front carpark).

Residents are asked to bring their own shovels to fill the bags.
