Townsville Residents can learn ways to make their houses and gardens more environmentally efficient, effective and cost less to run at Council’s Sustainability House Open Day on Sunday 28 May.

This free family event runs from 10am-2pm at the Rowes Bay Sustainability Centre and everyone is welcome to come and talk to environmental community groups and businesses involved in the sustainability field in Townsville.

Members of the community can learn how they can integrate sustainability and increase resilience in their own homes by checking out all the great initiatives on show at Sustainability House.

Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said this event will feature displays from NQ Native Bees, stories with Kit Prendergast, a kids zone, local birds display, free wood fired pizzas, a sprinkler swap and more.

“Council hosts our annual Open Day at the Rowes Bay Sustainability Centre to support and encourage sustainable lifestyles within our community,” Cr Soars said.

“This free event highlights improvements that our community can make around the home and garden to reduce costs and save energy and turn their waste into a home resource.

“Council is committed to working towards zero waste and creating a sustainable city supported by a well-educated community that actively participates in the protection of our environment.”

For the comfort of residents attending the open day, Council will provide toilet facilities.
