New fuel tool makes filling up easier

A new tool is now available to Townsville residents to help them better understand fuel availability across the local government area.

Townsville’s Emergency Management and Disaster Dashboard has introduced a Fuel Supplies section, allowing users to easily see the Queensland Government’s Fuel Prices API overlaid on a map of Townsville.

Once users click on the Fuel Supplies tab, each clickable icon on the map provides information on fuel availability, including whether fuel is available at petrol stations, how much it costs and when the information was last checked.

Mayor Nick Dametto said the addition to the dashboard would help residents make informed decisions about their fuel use.

“Fuel price and availability is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. It’s an essential part of modern life no matter whether it’s for getting to work, dropping the kids at school, or running your own business,” Cr Dametto said.

“The reality of the current global fuel crisis is that some areas are facing fuel shortages, but by providing an easy-to-use map for residents we can alleviate some of these fears and reduce panic buying.

“The new Fuel Supplies tab on the dashboard lets you see which petrol stations have fuel as well as prices, so driving from station to station trying to find the most affordable fuel becomes a thing of the past.”

The information is automatically provided from the Queensland Government’s Fuel Prices API and is currently in a trial phase. The information may be affected by environmental conditions, technical limitations or delays in data transmission.
