Fresh surface ahead for busy Annandale road

A busy Annandale road is receiving a new lease on life, with Council crews ripping up and resealing a section of MacArthur Drive this week.

Deputy Mayor and Division 6 Councillor Suzy Batkovic said the works would deliver an important upgrade to MacArthur Drive.

“MacArthur Drive is an important connection through Annandale and is used by thousands of motorists every day,” Cr Batkovic said.

“The existing road surface is more than 25 years old and has undergone repairs over that time. These works will deliver a complete resurfacing of this section of MacArthur Drive.

“I know this work will be welcomed by residents and motorists who use MacArthur Drive regularly, and it’s great to see it getting underway.”

Cr Batkovic said the approximately $430,000 project would take around a week to complete.

“Crews have been replacing sections of damaged kerb and channel, and are now removing the existing road surface and will lay around 430 tonnes of asphalt across more than 3,500 square metres of road,” she said.

“Road maintenance is one of the fundamental services Council delivers, and we have crews carrying out this type of work right across Townsville throughout the year.

“This is about looking after the infrastructure our community uses every day and delivering the core services our residents expect. That’s what getting back to basics is all about.”

Traffic management is in place while the works are underway.
