Get graffiti gone with free removal kits

The power to erase graffiti from homes and businesses is now in residents’ hands with Council making its new graffiti removal kits available free of charge.

Between January and June this year Council’s teams identified more than 1000 incidents of graffiti on Council property, with many of these removed on the spot with graffiti wipes. Now Council is making it easier than ever for residents and businesses to do the same at their properties with graffiti removal kits.

The kits, which contain tools, cleaning products and removal instructions, have been created to help locals maintain a clean, welcoming environment across Townsville in alignment with Council’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan 2025-2030.

Division 3 councillor Ann-Maree Greaneysaid there was already strong uptake from the community for the kits, which became available last month.

“We know that graffiti is an issue across our city, and one that impacts many businesses and residences. This is deliberately conducted vandalism which decreases the amenity of our neighbourhoods and our business precincts,” Cr Greaneysaid.

“While this sort of crime is a police matter, Council is still committed to doing what it can to make Townsville a safer and more vibrant city, which is why we’ve brought back our graffiti removal kits. These kits are filled with everything you need to remove graffiti from your property, including all the cleaning products and tools you need to get the job done.

“Nobody asks to have their home or business vandalised, so we’re making sure you’re not out of pocket for one of these kits. They are available at no charge, all you have to do is fill out an application form on Council’s website and send us a picture of the graffiti you’ll be removing, or give us a call on 13 48 10.”

Amazing Grace Early Learning Centre assistant director Jacque Osmondsaid their front fence had been tagged three times in a row.

“It’s frustrating for us, as we provide childcare so we want our business to look inviting for families. It’s inconvenient because we need to get our maintenance worker to come out and remove the graffiti,” Ms Osmondsaid.

“We decided to sign up for a graffiti kit so we could have it on hand to clean graffiti as soon as we see it.”

Each kit contains:

• small bucket with lid
• 125mL EcoConcepts Graffiti Remover (with Safety Data Sheet)
• green scourer pad
• cleaning towel
• small scrubbing brush
• clear safety goggles
• disposable overalls
• disposable gloves
• P2 mask.
