Townsville will throw open the gates to 1300SMILES Stadium for a huge civic reception to welcome home the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys on Monday 5 October.

Acting Mayor Cr Vern Veitch said the Townsville City Council had worked in partnership with the Club to finalise details for Monday’s Cowboys Grand Final Civic Reception.

Gates will open at 2.30pm with the event running from 3-4pm.

"The Cowboys have brought tremendous pride to the North, and the council and the Club want to join with the community to show our appreciation with a massive civic reception," Cr Veitch said.

"The invitation goes out to everyone to come to the 1300SMILES Stadium on Monday and join in the celebrations, hopefully with the grand final trophy.

"Council’s events team has worked closely with the Cowboys to put in place arrangements that will encourage maximum community involvement.

"With Monday a public holiday, we’re expecting a big turnout."

Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner says the event is about thanking the community for their support, as much as celebrating a highly successful season for the team.

"The community have been right behind us, and the team have been astounded by the support," Tonner said.

Staging and screens will be set up on the main field of the stadium for the presentation of players and official speeches from dignitaries.

Attendees are encouraged to bring along blankets to sit on, as the entire event will be hosted on field.

4TO’s Minty will MC the official proceedings, with an official welcome from Cowboys Chairman Laurence Lancini and Townsville City Council Mayor Jenny Hill.

Public parking will be available in the northern car park with access to the stadium via gates 2 and 6.

Cowboys 2016 memberships, merchandise as well as food and non-alcoholic drinks will be on sale. The public is advised that no chairs will be permitted on the playing field.
