Mighty Cowboys colours fly high over Brisbane CBD

The NQ Cowboys colours are flying proudly on Brisbane’s historic Story Bridge.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk honoured his bet with Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill to hoist the Cowboys colours this afternoon.

Cr Hill said it was a great moment for the north to have the flag seen by thousands of Brisbane commuters on one of the capital’s icons.

"There could be no better site than the Cowboys colours up on the bridge for everyone to see," Cr Hill said.

"We sent a flag measuring a 1000 square feet which was a bit cheeky and too big for Brisbane to handle. A smaller version was used instead, honouring the bet and that’s what’s important.

"It’s all good fun and the Lord Mayor showed he’s a good sport."

Cr Hill said she would honour a bet with Ipswich mayor Cr Paul Pisasale and wear an Ipswich Jet jersey to this month’s full council meeting after the Jets beat the Townsville Blackhawks in the Intrust Supercup.
