Townsville City Council is gearing up for a week of celebrations to recognise the city’s senior residents.

The Seniors Lifestyle Expo on Tuesday, August 23 will feature more than 100 exhibitors with information, activities and giveaways specifically tailored to our seniors.

Exhibitors include healthcare and service providers, community groups, fitness opportunities and recreational and entertainment options.

There will also be presentations throughout the morning including the T150 Yarns Series: The Garrison City.

The yarns series is a collection of engaging live story-telling events featuring a panel of notable speakers, sure to offer a trip down memory lane for many of the city’s older residents.

The expo will start the week of festivities which will include the annual free Seniors Luncheon on August 25 and 26 for residents over the age of 60.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the expo and luncheon were fantastic opportunities to celebrate the contribution of seniors in creating a vibrant community.

“We are thrilled to facilitate events that bring people together to recognise and demonstrate the role that seniors play as volunteers, caregivers and valuable residents in our city,” Cr Hill said.

“These events are also a perfect opportunity to work towards improving the community’s attitudes towards older people and ageing in general.”

The expo is free to attend and will be held at the Townsville Stadium in Murray on August 23 from 10am-1pm.

A free bus will run from Stockland to the stadium at 9am, 10am and 11am.
