Exhibition of hidden treasures showcases city’s growth

Date published: 8 December 2016

Perc Tucker Regional Gallery’s last exhibition of 2016 will open tomorrow night.

Picturing Townsville is a selection of works from the City of Townsville Art Collection and will mark the city’s 150th year with works that tell the story of the development of the city.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the works capture moments in Townsville over the past decades and reflect the changing times.

“Through the artist’s eyes we can see how Townsville has grown, what the important issues of the day were and the events that shaped the city and its people,” Cr Doyle said.

“The works are a fascinating walk down memory lane and paint a picture of Townsville over the past 150 years.

“It’s also an interesting insight into how trends in art have changed.”

The exhibition will open on Friday, December 9 at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome.

Picturing Townsville will be on display until January 22.
