Rockpool to reopen tonight

The coast is clear for the Rockpool to reopen following an outbreak of trichodesmium, commonly known as red tide, dispersed.

Refilling of the Rockpool will begin on the incoming tide this afternoon, making it ready for public use tomorrow morning.

The Rockpool was closed last week as a public health measure after the bloom entered the swimming enclosure.

Townsville City Council crews emptied and cleaned the Rockpool and have been monitoring the algal bloom daily.

Water for the Rockpool is drawn from the bay, which usually experiences a bloom of trichodesmium at this time of year.
