CBD utilities works update

Date published: 31 August 2017

Flinders Street West upgrade works will commence next week as the next phase of council’s CBD works.

The section between Stanley and Blackwood Streets on the south side of Flinders Street will undergo the works between September 4 and 20, weather permitting.

The works will involve the temporary closure of the footpath and associated parking bays on a progressive basis.

Pedestrians will be guided via barriers and signage, with traffic controllers on duty during working hours. Property access will be open at all times.

Investigation works will also be happening in Stanley Street East from Ogden to Hanran Street, Denham Street East (Flinders corner) and Stokes Street West (Walker to Wills Street) from September 4 to 15.

These works will involve the temporary closure of the kerbside parking and adjacent traffic lane on a progressive basis as work crews move along the street.

Property access will be maintained as will all traffic movements. Pedestrians will be guided around the work areas via signage.

Works will involve:

  • Excavation of pits in the road to investigate service locations
  • Use of a hydro excavations truck to remove materials
  • Temporary partial footpath closure
  • Low level noise

Final planning is also underway to commence a six to eight week section of work installing a section of bulk water pipeline in Stanley Street (outbound lane only, towards Lowths bridge) from Hanran Street to Flinders Street.

Work is scheduled to commence September 11 and will require a 4-5m deep excavation in the road to lay the pipe.

Also in September Stokes Street will be closed to through traffic between Walker and Sturt Streets from September 11-15 to allow excavation across the road to install water main pipe work.

Buses will be redirected during this time for six weeks via Denham/Walker/Stanley Street.

Signage will be in place to redirect passengers to the alternative bus stop.

Road and lane closures will be required and detours will be in place to redirect traffic away from this part of the CBD road network.

Normal work hours are 7.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 7.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday.

Council appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation with these essential works are conducted.
