Library staff find hidden treasure to help fight childhood cancer

CityLibraries staff hooked into some morning tea today for International Talk Like A Pirate Day to raise much needed funds for childhood cancer research.

Library staff dressed up as pirates to raise funds to support families affected by childhood cancers.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Colleen Doyle said the event was a fun way to raise vital funds for the Golden Octopus Foundation.

"Talk Like A Pirate Day is a grrrreat initiative to raise funds for our sick kids – it’s a fun and positive way to support our greatest treasures," Cr Doyle said.

"Staff at our local libraries really got on board by dressing up and talking like pirates all day.

"There was pirate StoryTime for little buccaneers and staff showed buckos and lasses how to use Mango Languages – where you can learn more than 70 languages online for free, including pirate language."
