Townsville City Council’s Community Health and Environment Committee recommended the Animal Management Reference Group’s Terms of Reference be approved.

The Reference Group aims to promote responsible pet ownership throughout Townsville and provide advice on future public education campaigns and local law reviews.

Membership will include 7 members with representation from Council, foster and rehoming groups, a vet and a community member.

Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the Reference Group would help provide expert advice to ensure Council’s policies and programs helped promote responsible pet ownership in the most effective ways.

“Council wants to make sure we are getting the best advice from experts in the field of animal management,” Cr Greaney said.

“The Reference Group will discuss the best ways to ensure responsible pet ownership throughout Townsville and report back to Council.”

The Group will meet regularly throughout the year, once established.

The Animal Management Reference Group’s terms of reference will go before the next Full Council meeting for consideration.
