The curtain will rise in June on Townsville’s premier arts and cultural event, the award-winning North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA), with tickets now on sale.

NAFA runs from 10 June to 10 July 2022, with a spectacular collection of music, comedy, cabaret, circus and dance shows bringing people from all over the city to experience the arts, culture and entertainment in a month-long festival.

Mayor Jenny Hill said it was exciting to be able to share an all-new NAFA lineup in 2022.

“Townsville is the capital of arts, culture and events in North Queensland and it’s exciting to be able to share an all new NAFA with residents and visitors to the city this year,” Cr Hill said.

“Council crews and local organisations have been working tirelessly to put together a festival that includes something for everyone and will attract visitors from across Australia.

“This year’s line-up is full of phenomenal acts and anyone that has experienced NAFA in previous years will not be disappointed. I really encourage everyone to jump on the website, book their tickets early and prepare for an amazing month of arts and culture.”

This year, the NAFA Festival Hub will be centrally located at Jezzine Barracks, where the NAFA Spiegeltent, NAFA Garden Bar and four other performance venues will be centrally located.

NAFA’s 2022 Main Stage will also be located at Jezzine Barracks, with free concerts including performances by Boy & Bear, Dragon and Dancenorth’s Dance Tropics Dance.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said there was a lot to look forward to in the NAFA program this year.

“There is a huge line-up of acts for NAFA, with over 450 performances including acts curated by NAFA and others being held by the community members in the fringe program,” Cr Greaney said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Townsville come alive during our beautiful dry season and going to some of the incredible events on offer.”

The jam-packed school holiday program will be released soon with more kid-friendly events than ever before as well as previous sell-out favourites for the grown-ups, Bernie Dieter and Rouge returning with brand-new not-to-be-missed shows.

NAFA’s brand new website is now live, with tickets for most shows on sale now. To book tickets, or for more information, check out www.nafa-tsv.com.au, as many shows at this year’s month-long award-winning festival are expected to sell out fast.
