Council is calling on residents and visitors to roll up their sleeves and join the Great Spring Clean Up at Magnetic Island this weekend, with a special focus on tackling litter along the beautiful Nelly Bay coastline.

The community-driven initiative is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to protecting the natural environment and preserving the pristine beauty of Magnetic Island for generations to come.

Acting Mayor and divisional councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the Clean Up was a great opportunity for locals to come together and make a tangible difference.

“We’re inviting everyone to join us in this important effort to reduce litter and improve the health of our coastline,” Cr Greaney said.

“Being right on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef, it’s doubly important that we come together as a community to lessen the impact of rubbish finding its way to our oceans.

“Whether you’re a resident, a visitor, or just someone who loves the island, your help will go a long way in keeping Nelly Bay clean and vibrant.”

Volunteers will be provided with gloves, bags, and refreshments, and Council staff will be on hand to coordinate the Clean Up and ensure waste is disposed of responsibly.

“Let’s work together to keep Magnetic Island beautiful. Every piece of litter removed is a step toward a cleaner, healthier environment,” Cr Greaney said.
