Community grants to flow across Townsville
Date published: 1 April 2026
Seven community groups will host sports competitions, cultural events and workshops thanks to more than $120,000 of grant funding from Townsville City Council.
Council today voted to approve grant funding for:
- Townsville Triathlon Club - $25,000
- Townsville NAIDOC Committee - $24,289.26
- Great Barrier Reef Orchestra - $25,000
- Townsville City Netball Association - $19,287.78
- Filipino Australian Association of North Queensland - $18,089.79
- Townsville Writers and Publishing Centre - $3,611.04
- Townsville Titans - $5,000.
Mayor Nick Dametto said the funding would help thousands of Townsville locals and visitors get involved in community events.
“It’s great to hear about the events these groups will host with the help of Council’s Community Grants,” Councillor Dametto said.
“We’ll have everything from triathlons and writing workshops, to a celebration of 80 years of Philippines-Australia diplomatic relations, just to name a few.
“Community events support Townsville’s inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy our community and our laidback lifestyle.
“Some of these events will attract out-of-town visitors, which will also boost the local economy through hotel stays, dining out and retail spend.”
