City’s finest take the stage for Townsville’s Got Talent

Townsville’s homegrown performers will take centre stage on Saturday when Townsville’s Got Talent returns to the Civic Theatre as part of the popular Morning Melodies series.

Presented by the Friends of the Theatre (FOTT), the popular annual variety concert has become a cherished local tradition that celebrates the depth and diversity of talent across the city while raising funds to support local artists and performers.

Audiences can look forward to a vibrant showcase featuring talented local acts including vocalist Amelia Betcher, crooner Jonathan Coco, The Great Northern Big Band and the Ann Roberts School of Dance amongst others.

The event will be hosted by Jodie Bell, a familiar face to local musical theatre audiences who was most recently seen in the Townsville Choral Society's sold-out season of Mamma Mia.

Mayor Nick Dametto said Townsville’s Got Talent was a chance to get behind local performers and enjoy a great morning at the Civic Theatre.

“We’ve got some serious talent here in Townsville, and you don’t have to look far to find it,” Cr Dametto said.

“This event gives local performers a chance to step onto the Civic Theatre stage and show us what they can do. I’d encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the show and give them a crowd to remember.

“Whether you’re a Morning Melodies regular or haven’t been to the theatre in a while, this is a great reason to head along with a few mates.

“Council is proud to support our local performers and the people behind the scenes who make events like this happen. They put a lot into our community, and this is our chance to get behind them.”

Friends of the Theatre president Trevor Keeling said that the original monthly FOTT concerts had been a great tradition in the Townsville community, with hundreds of local performers participating in them over the years.

“Through the Morning Melodies program, the Townsville Civic Theatre has ensured this tradition is maintained with the annual concert,” Mr Keeling said.

“Every dollar raised through selling tea and coffee at the theatre – and through the concert – goes straight back into supporting our arts community through sponsorship and most recently the introduction of a bursary program, which sees us giving away up to five annual bursaries to young people going to pursue careers in theatre, music and dance as well as two local bursaries to support TheatreinQ’s Bridge Project program.

“So, by attending Townsville’s Got Talent, you not only enjoy a wonderful morning of entertainment, but also help local artists and arts organisations to thrive.”

Townsville’s Got Talent will be held at 11am on Saturday 7 November, at the Townsville Civic Theatre.
